Fried Green Tomatoes

My laptop is out for repair :( so I haven't been able to post as much without being able to upload photos, but I found this old shot of fried green tomatoes that I never got around to posting. I've never actually had green tomatoes - fried or unfried - nor have I seen the movie but I decided to give it a shot. These crispy disks of tart green tomatoes were great with lemon squeezed on top, or even dipped in marinara sauce. I guess I need to go see the movie now! Any recommendations?

Thrifty note
This small rectangular plate is from a local thrift store and I believe is hand painted. It's so blue and pretty, isn't it?

yum!! I've been thinking a lot about fried green tomatoes lately... I'm impatient and don't want to wait for the ones in my garden to turn red! (plus with all this talk about blight I'm better off picking them now while there's still unaffected, right?)

I've been planning to try fried green tomatoes myself because my friend said they usually have it at home as a side dish to fried chicken.

I love fried green tomatoes but for some reason I've never made them at home. The last time I've had fried green tomatoes was in Savannah and that was a while ago. I must have some soon!

Oh.My.
Yummy!
Looks every inch a delicious bite.
Wouldn't have thought it was just tomatoes. I must admit my imagination ran wild and I was thinking it was a tomato/cheese fried sandwich.
Grin.
Yes, I'm a tad hungry...

I just found your beautiful blog, and am loving it! You're amazing in a thrift store, so if you're ever in NYC, let me know and I'll let you take me around to our famous second hand shops ;-)

Let's see now --- I am 67 years old, and I have been eating corn-meal breaded, fried green tomatoes for about 60 of those years.

And, they just keep getting better.

But in Texas, we have a hankerin' for good food.

Loved your post.

I have also never tried them, but when I saw green tomatoes at the farmer's market recently I was tempted to try to fry them. Maybe if there are green tomatoes this week I'll have to give in. Dipping them in marinara sauce sounds yummy!

I'll add my name to the growing list of folks who have not tried these. Your post has inspired me to give them a go.
